Along with a nongovernmental organization known as WildTeam, the Forest Department of Bangladesh has made many strides towards protecting the Royal Bengal Tiger population. Their main accomplishment was the creation of Village Tiger Response Teams (VTRT), which are located in areas with significant human-tiger conflict.

Poaching and Illegal Trade

Unlike the Indian Sundarbans, there is still widespread belief in the healing power and overall benefits of tiger parts within the Bangladeshi Sundarbans. The results of a study in 2016 by Samia Saif showed that 62% of respondents believed in the value of tiger parts, and that 24% of the respondents had previously used tiger parts to cure an illness.
